Just a short drive from Tours (15 odd minutes) is found a
magical place, a
unique place, rich in history and exuding
medieval ambience in the midst of the tranquility of nature.
The gîte du Prieuré de St-Jean-du-Grais is a magnificent site, which would be ideal for groups families or friends, or even clubs or societies, as it has the capacity to sleep up to 12 people in comfort.
To say it is a privilege to stay here seems an understatement as one is literally in the shadow of the Priory, less than fifty feet from it, it's like sleeping next to the "Mona Lisa", which may sound odd but in fact as well as being an important historical edifice it is also a work of art.
The g
îte itself is at one with its surroundings, and yet it is
separate and
independent. It is a beautiful building that looks out across long rolling lawns secluded by woods, one has the instant perception of exceptional calm.
Inside the gîte one is seduced by its authenticity, the oak beamed ceilings and the huge fireplaces offer a magnificent warm welcome during the colder seasons, the stone walls keep the building cool during the heat of summer and the garden furniture and barbeque allow you to take advantage of the balmy evenings to eat outdoors, unless you prefer to eat in the dining room which is decorated by the glorious paintings of artists who once stayed here.
Among all this original olde-worlde-ness, there are still concessions to modernity, the living room is equipped with a telephone, a television and a DVD, the kitchen is fully equipped.
